Oh, and for reference, Effie and I work in a different department. Please don’t associate us with them.

–Saude, Canto II: The Unloving

Saude is a member of the LCCB Preliminary Observation Unit 3 and a supporting character introduced in Canto II: The Unloving alongside her coworker Effie.

Appearance

Saude is first introduced in her croupier disguise. She wears a white collared dress shirt with black pants and gray shoes, while on her chest lies a simple dark ribbon fastened together with a single button. On top of her collared shirt she wears a red vest with pronounced, darker-red lapels. Affixed to her left lapel is a blank name tag, while her right holds a strangely shaped gold and red pin which connects to the button holding together her ribbon with a chain.

Her normal LCCB uniform consists of a large turquoise jumpsuit suited on top of a black turtleneck. On top of that she wears a dark gray work vest fitted with several velcro pockets and a walkie talkie. Another, larger pocket is fastened to her right thigh. She wears black combat boots and black gloves. This version of Saude also carries around a large turquoise pistol which she holds in her right hand.

What stays consistent throughout both of her looks is Saude's medium length dark brown hair fastened into a high ponytail by long, red ribbon. Her hair is held back tightly in the ponytail with the exception of a few strands of hair peaking out at her hairline and her ears. Her eye color is unknown, as Saude never opens them.

Personality

Saude comes off as a gentle, amiable woman who is usually seen wearing a friendly expression. At first, Saude's personality appears to be the polar opposite of her partner Effie's, however she is an equally critical person in actuality; she simply chooses to present herself differently. Dante would at one point describe her as someone who is putting on a veil of kindness. At times her sarcasm and lack of faith can come off as even more backhanded than Saude's, considering the ingenuine smile they are paired with.

Both Effie and Saude are shown to be very intelligent and committed to their work. They immediately prove themselves to be highly knowledgeable during their excursion with the Sinners at J Corp., being able to swiftly answer questions concerning the Tingtang Gang, Tieqiu Crew, and the Wing's Singularity. They also craft a plan for securing the Golden Bough so perfect that Ishmael is shocked to find lacks even a single thing to be complained about. On top of this, the two of them claim to have practiced for months to pass as bonafide croupiers for this plan, and then manage to do just that, showing great dedication and skill. Effie and Saude are described as ideal partners who can tell what the other is thinking with only a glance.

By Canto III: The Unconfronting, Saude seems to have gained an admiration of sorts for the Sinners and their strange way of doing things. At that point, she shows off more of her actual personality, but it's considerably more like friendly teasing than any form of genuine negativity. Her and Effie appear to be looking forward to working with the eccentric bunch from here on out.

Background

Neither Saude nor Effie have any kind of official backstory at present. What is known is that they are members of the Limbus Company Clearance department (LCC), specifically the Before Team, and appear to be well acquainted with Faust. In Limbus Company, they are hired to help the Sinners with securing the Golden Boughs from the section mission onward.

Story

Canto II: The Unloving

The duo of Saude and Effie first introduce themselves to the Sinners for the first time in J Corp. as they look through a pawnshop, having been given orders to assist the group in a heist on the Wing. The two introduce a flawless plan to the Sinners, much to their surprise, or at least mainly Ishmael's. With the Golden Bough being treated as a prize in a game of cards involving several of the local Syndicates, the two LCCB members make it known that the Sinners are expected to play particular roles to get closer to the Bough and acquire it. However, while preparing for the job, the pawnshop would be visited by a Tingtang Gang extortioner, a member involved in one of the four game-involved parties, who would begin threatening the pawnbroker. Despite Saude's choice to have the Sinners simply ignore this, Don Quixote would stand up to them, beginning a slow descent for the perfected plan. The Sinners are faced with no other option as they battle several Tingtangers.

Fleeing from the Pawnshop, beginning to rework the plan while being chased by several Tingtangers, Saude would attempt to meet the Sinners midway, reworking the plan to instead take the place of the Tingtang Syndicate. Finding their way to the scrapyard owned by the group, the two LCCB members would explain the functioning of the group before they would reach the Tingtang Boss, who would be defeated and have his identity stolen by the thirteen Sinners. Providing the group with Wishpower, Saude would explain the plan to cheat during the match while using this ability.

The duo would take the place of croupiers within the casino housing the Golden Bough event. Working with the plan to escort Rodion to the game on the upper floors, the plan would have another wrench thrown into it as a slot machine would score Dante and Don Quixote a jackpot due to the stored Wishpower, causing a great commotion as casino staff come out looking for IDs. Due to the way chance works in J Corp., it becomes obvious that the group are not what they seem and causes repeated strife. Saude would mention how the Sinners require the Wishpower that ended up wasted, meaning they need to somehow regain it. Planning to harvest new Wishpower, the container was destroyed, causing a month's work of luck to dissipate, shocking Saude. From here, Saude would declare that she has no plans to discuss any further plans with the group, succumbing to despair.

Following the Sinners rising through the casino, before winning the game through the use of bluffing and violence, the Sinners would recoup with Effie and Saude in the elevator traveling to the vault. She would question Rodya, being told of the many traits the gambler made use of to win. The duo would then stay behind as the Sinners continue through J Corp., later earning the Bough.

Canto III: The Unconfronting

Meeting the Sinners again once they complete their checkup into the K Corp. Nest, the duo would return, this time in their LCCB equipment, planning to search Calw, Sinclair's home village, for the Golden Bough. Saddened by the fact Vergilius did not join the Sinners, they would move on to complete their role.

Not all would work out however, as the duo would meet Kromer and her Nagel und Hammer forces, leading to the death of Effie. In a torture room of the Lobotomy Corp Branch within the District, Saude would be tortured by several Inquisitors. Once the torturers are killed, Saude would be seen in her wounded state, barely able to speak, questioning on the state of Effie. The group would lie, saying he is alive, before Peccatula would attack. Soon after the battle, Guido would arrive to the group for his final confrontation, focusing purely on Dante. Saude would raise a gun on Dante as they tried to fight back, saying she would fire the moment they turn back the clock. She was previously told Effie could survive if she sold out the Sinners, as Guido begins to crush Dante's head. However, as Sinclair attacks the massive Inquisitor, his attention would be drawn long enough that Saude fires a shot into Guido's head, causing him to die. Saude would make it known she knew Effie was dead, her wounds worsening. She would tell the Sinners not to waste time saving her, planning to distract the Inquisitors. She would grow annoyed as the Sinners ruin her farewell, telling Faust to take the group out of the torture room as she makes her wish for Vergilius to give her a visit known. Saude would be left behind as the group continues through the Branch.

Canto V: The Evil Defining

Following her assumed death, the Sinners would later be informed by Pilot that Saude not only survived, yet was also promoted to the rank of manager, saved by the arrival of the LCCA. Though she wished to see the Sinners again, she was busy on a mission while the group was in U Corp. The group would tell Pilot to send their regards to her when he gets the chance, with Sinclair particularly pleased to have gotten the chance to finally express his gratitude to her.
