–Pip, Canto V: The Evil Defining |
Pip (Hangul: 핍, Pip) was a crew member of the The Pequod and a supporting character in Canto V: The Evil Defining.
Appearance
Pip is a young boy with dark skin and ginger, shaggy hair. He has large green eyes and freckles across his nose, He wears a large, green, button-up shirt with several tears and stitches across it. The oversized sleeves are rolled up to reveal an olive underside. His pants are similar to his top, with the pantlegs rolled up to his calves with bare feet.
During Canto V, he wears the same clothes, yet is now seen with the Pallidifaction caused by the Pallid Whale, and sporting a deranged expression with his left eye covered.
Personality
Pip has a young personality, being generally emotional and rambunctious, yet he appears to have a great level of self sufficiency due to his role on The Pequod, something most seasoned sailors struggled with. By the time of Canto V, he later developed a rabid and dark personality, seemingly developed by his time around Ahab and her manipulation, spurring him to even kill other crew members, motivated by his past friendship with Stubb.
He has a habit of speaking in the third person.
Story
Prior to Limbus Company
At some point, Pip joined the Pequod as a crew member, becoming a member of Ahab's hunt of the Pallid Whale. He would grow close with those of the crew, and especially Stubb.
Through the Golden Bough's resonance, it is shown that Pip dreamed of becoming a landlord, once the hunt was done, in hopes of making a lot of money, causing a friendly session of teasing between he and Starbuck. During a later confrontation with the Pallid Whale, Stubb would be bit whilst defending Pip, causing Ahab to give Stubb a final farewell, motivating Pip and the rest of the crew to continue on, using the newly formed Mermaid as a compass to the Whale. Even later, Pip would end up having to go and manage the Mermaid locked away in the ship, something which was comforted and explained by Starbuck and Ahab respectively. He would be apart of the inevitable confrontation of the Pallid Whale, and be consumed with the rest of the crew, beginning their pallidification.
Canto V: The Evil Defining
While in Pequod Town, he would closely work with Ahab and the rest of the crew. When the plan to kill the Whale begins, he would accompany the majority of the crew, while Queequeg would join the LCB Sinners travelling along another path. During this time, Pip would be a part of the group that gradually culled the horde of sailors with them, spurred by Ahab. At the arrival of the group, the Sinners would face off against Ahab, and Pip would be consumed by her E.G.O, Gasharpoon, and used as fuel alike the rest of his remaining crew.

Trivia
- Pip's namesake comes from Herman Melville's Moby-Dick: he shares his name Pippin, Pip for short, the cabin-boy from the novel.
- In the course of the novel, Pip is forced to replace a crewmate on Stubb's boat, and falls into the water during the hunt, only being found by the Pequod and saved by chance. Pip is traumatized by the experience, and is considered mad by the other members of the crew; Ahab then takes pity on him, and takes the youth under his wing. This is reflected in Pip's delirium towards the end of Canto V, in which Ahab's own madness overtakes Pip, and he appears overjoyed at the prospect of slaying the Whale.
