–Moses, Distortion Detective Chapter 1 |
Moses, also known as the Distortion Detective, is a member of the LCD and the On-site Investigative Reasoning Team Leader. She has the unique ability to see Distortion Phenomenon on other people, and researches Distortions as a result of this.
Moses is a Grade 5 Fixer who was previously working under the Seven Association and the Operator of Moses' Office where she investigated the mysteries of Distortions. She is the protagonist of The Distortion Detective and first appeared in Chapter 1: I Can See the Distortion.
Appearance
Moses is a short, middle aged woman with dark hair and white highlights, and visible wrinkles around her eyes. She has pale skin and dark grey eyes.
Her main outfit consist of a white shirt with long sleeves with ruffles, a red ribbon tied around the collar of her shirt and an off-the-sleeves grey jacket with golden trimming and cross-shapped golden buttons. She wears high waisted black pants with golden stripes, and black shoes with white and gold accents.
She always carries with her her churchwarden pipe, later revealed to be her Psychoment or E.G.O, which has a long black mouthpiece and a golden diam, adorned with a red ribbon. This allows her to purify incomplete Distortions, pacify and/or suppress enemies, depending on the smoke's color. Her "pale breath" attack comes at a direct cost of shortening Moses' lifespan. Her purple breath creates "binds" from her regret, her pale breath creates a blue mist capable of slowing down her opponent, her red breath transform the smoke into a blade, and her white breath creates a mist that protects from mental attacks.
After her conflict with Vespa during Chapter 19, her right arm was replaced by a prosthetic.
Personality
Moses holds a calm and analytical attitude to any situations that she happens to find herself in, be it facing distortions or near-death scenarios. Even in moments of extreme danger, she is able to keep her composure and unravel the source of any distortions she happens to find herself against. She seems to have a deep trust in her allies, trusting in their combat capabilities and ability to stay safe while she utilizes her analytical skills.
She does not seem to have any aversion to shortening her own life-span if it means that it will protect either her or the people close to her.
Story
Distortion Detective
Moses is the main protagonist of Distortion Detective. Formerly a Seven Association fixer, she is first introduced reflecting on what a Distortion is, and revealed to be a detective whose investigations center around them. As the namesake and founder of Moses' Office, she and Ezra investigate a variety of different Distortions, forcing Moses to face her trauma formed as a result of her participation in the Smoke War as a member of the Udjat. This ultimately culminates in her traveling to District 12 during the height of the Library's effects.
Distortion Detective ends on a cliffhanger as Moses meets Larriere and Rusk, an elder Bloodfiend and her kindred respectively.
Limbus Company
Moses is first mentioned by Ezra in Intervallo III: Yield My Flesh to Claim Their Bones, with Ezra reporting to Moses on Dante's success in turning off the Monolith. She was next mentioned in the Risk Levels & Classifications Mini Episode, as she wrote the report informing the Sinners of the updates regarding Limbus Company's classifications of Distortions. During this meeting of the LCB, Don Quixote recalls hearing Moses' name in the past, but is unable to remember further.
Moses and Ezra both provide intel to the LCB regarding Bloodfiends during their Golden Bough retrieval mission in La Manchaland in Canto VII: The Dream Ending. While unable to appear in person due to "personal reasons", Moses informed the Sinners of all of the knowledge she has gathered about the nature of Bloodfiends and their relationship to Distortions. At the end of the call, Moses expressed a desire to one day meet with Dante and shared that she is glad to know that there was another person who is able to sense Distortions like she can.
