–Guido, Canto III: The Unconfronting |
Guido is a major antagonist in Canto III: The Unconfronting. He is the Großhammer of the N Corp. Inquisition, the right-hand man of The One Who Grips, Kromer.
Appearance
Guido is a massive man with an unknown appearance. He is always seen in wearing silver, partially engraved armour over red chainmail and a scratched helmet with a faceplate sculpted to have an impassive expression. Guido also sports a red, floor-length cape fastened to his pauldrons. Red wax seals with paper strips are attached to his shoulders, knees and chest.
Guido wields a long, thin nail, half of which is wrapped in red cloth.
Based on Meursault's Großhammer Identity and his feats in Canto III, it is implied he has body modifications (namely implanted K Corp. tubes) that allow for regeneration.
Personality
As a high-ranking member of the inquisition, Guido is devoted to Kromer and is steadfast in N Corp's beliefs. Despite considering the Sinners heretics for following Dante, he was lenient enough to give them a chance to repent. Despite his deep devotion to his cause, Meursault's Großhammer Identity reveals he likely carries a sense of dread about his use of K Corp. prosthetics, realizing his cause in some part to be wrong.
Story
Prior to Limbus Company
Little is known about Guido's individual history, yet it is obvious he has worked with the Inquisition for a long period of time. He was present during Kromer's attack on Sinclair's family, participating in their slaughter to some degree.
Canto III: The Unconfronting
Guido first confronts the Sinners as they enter Calw, assisting in the massacre orchestrated by Kromer. Despite being defeated (and having implied to kill a few Sinners), he gets away and later reappears in front of Sinclair's mansion, miraculously healed of all injuries and expressing surprise at the Sinner's resurrections. When the Sinners reject his offer to repent, Guido engages them in battle a second time and is defeated again. Despite this, Guido would continue to pursue the Sinners upon his restoration. During this time, Saude would threaten to kill Dante, something which Guido takes upon himself, picking them up and beginning to shatter their head. Guido's murder would be halted by Sinclair suddenly shoving a nail into his back, staggering him as he releases Dante. Confronted by Sinclair, Saude would suddenly fire her pistol at Guido's head, seemingly killing him for good.

Trivia
- While little is known about Guido, his interactions with Dante, which seem to hint at Guido recognizing Dante, might imply that Guido is based off Italian poet Guido Cavalcanti, a close friend of Dante Alighieri, who became heavily involved with civil brawls in Florence until he was exiled by a council of judges, with Dante himself among them.
- In a subverted dynamic to what is portrayed within Limbus Company, with Guido calling Dante a blasphemous heretic, the historical Cavalcanti was an atheist, and his father was condemned by Dante to the sixth circle of Hell, that of heresy.
