Lan Yen
Lan Yen is a Fixer working at the same Office as Vergilius. He is a major supporting character in Leviathan and is introduced in Book1.
Appearance
Lan Yen wears his long, dark, hair in a ponytail behind his back, with messy bangs resting overtop the right side of his face. He wears a long, dark, undergarment beneath his outfit, which consists of a wide-necked zip-up jacket, with an ID card attached on his right lapel, and a white suit accompanied by a dark tie. He wears dark pants overtop similarly dark boots. On the left of his waist, connected at the belt, he carries a wakizashi. Both his hands are covered with dark gloves.
While he is seen wielding a ji in concept art, he does not use the weapon in the contents of Leviathan.
Personality
Lan Yen is a kind and observant man, caring deeply for his Officemates. He frequently keeps them in line, primarily Denver amongst her frequent extroverted comments to others. His care extends far enough that, even in his dying moments, he hopes for Vergilius to protect and benefit others.
Story
Prior to Leviathan
Originating from H Corp., Lan Yen one day joined Vergilius's Office.
Lan Yen, as well as the other members of Vergilius's Office, would have become acquainted to the struggle of affording food to survive, slowly deluding the group to a point of greed, making them willing to harm or abandon others if it means they will achieve a stable life.
Leviathan
At a later date, the group enjoyed drinks and food alongside Garnet, where Lan Yen participated in the event, ordering several drinks and trying to keep the mood light, as well as scolding Denver as she questions Garnet about himself. Following the recon done on a school and gallery operated by the Ring, he was involved with the plan to rescue Lapis from the Finger, as well as locating the enigmatic Singularity the Finger was believed to be using.
Tasked with working the communications of the group, Lan Yen stayed in the Office alongside many Fixers who assisted him in the relay of information. As Nanseul and Rikako acted as MDM Enterprises members, Nanseul worried dearly about the concept of the machine they transported falling over and breaking; Lan Yen reminded the man that if the machine were to break, he would lose five years of pay, much to Nanseul's distaste. Among the process, Lan Yen relayed precious information to Vergilius, such as the code to the Ring's Corridor.
Following the defeat of the Abnormality Schadenfreude, Vergilius heard a wounded Lan Yen speak over the communication frequency, telling him that the Office was attacked by N Corp. Taboo Hunters, punishing the group for witnessing recorded footage from within their Nest. Unknowing of his Officemates fates, he asked Vergilius to protect them. As somebody approached the dying Lan Yen, he requested Vergilius to send his bonus to "those three," with communication ended immediately after as the man is killed.
