Limbus Company (Hangul: 림버스 컴퍼니, Rimbeoseu keompeoni), is an enigmatic company operating in the City, capitalizing on the fall of Lobotomy Corporation.

Background

While they are apparently supported by a number of wealthy backers (evidenced by their possession of HP Ampules and firearms) and have significant capital, the company's true goals are unknown. According to Dante, the company's various Departments all have their own aims with no common goal. The LCB's objectives are to seek and recover the fallen Wing's E.G.O equipment, gather Enkephalin, contain Abnormalities, and ultimately obtain the Golden Boughs — the essence of L Corp's Singularity.

Caiman of LCCA states that Limbus Company's Golden Bough operations are merely a side task, and that it is seeking to define itself as a company specializing in the handling and research of Distortions, a corporate counterpart to the similarly proposed 13th Association.

LCA

The LCA is a mysterious department whose operatives all equip monocular headgear. Little is known about their role within the company, but Faust describes them as the "special operations unit." [1]

LCA Special Operations Team Member

Their first appearance is in the prequel webcomic/web novel Leviathan, where they are seen escorting Faust as she recruits Vergilius and Charon into the LCB department to oversee the Sinners.

The LCA is mentioned by Vergilius in Canto V. He informs the Sinners that, should he lose communication for six hours after the Pallid Whale ingests them, the LCA will take over the Golden Bough mission and attempt to blow the Whale apart in a lengthy battle. This at least implies that the LCA fulfils a combat role within Limbus Company, and has both the resources and power to fight a Great Lakes Calamity directly.

The LCA next appears in Intervallo III: Yield My Flesh to Claim Their Bones, where they are dispatched to T Corp's Backstreets to secure a Monolith related to the Distortion phenomenon, as well as Bamboo-hatted Kim, who had been distorted by the Monolith and brought back to his senses by the Sinners. After prodding by Ezra, they agree to transport both Kim and Aeng-du along with the Monolith for study. They also warn the Sinners to leave immediately, as they were sure to encounter the Thumb if they stayed longer; the LCA trooper cryptically states that "a foe is a friend, and a friend is a foe" in regard to the company's provocation of the Thumb.

An R&D Team of the LCA is mentioned in the flavor texts of Identity and E.G.O Takeoff Modules. [2]

LCB

The Limbus Company Bus Department,[3] or LCB, consists of thirteen employees designated as "Sinners". Their name is derived from their mode of transportation, the special bus, Mephistopheles.

Each Sinner was specifically recruited because of their ability to resonate with Sinner #10, Dante, who acts as the Executive Manager for the department. Aside from resurrecting via Dante's clock, the Sinners can also resonate with the Golden Boughs within the Lobotomy Corp. Branch facilities, and are thus tasked to venture into the treacherous underground dungeons in order to retrieve them.

The Color Fixer known as the Red Gaze, Vergilius, was scouted and recruited by Faust to guide the LCB across the City on the promise to restore Lapis' Identity from Charon's body — who now acts as the driver of Mephistopheles.

LCC

The Limbus Company Clearance Department, or LCC, is a special forces unit who assist the LCB in successfully retrieving the Golden Boughs. [4]

According to Faust in Canto II, it consists of various professionals and veterans, and is said to be significantly proficient in performing espionage operations. The department is split into two teams, the LCCB (Before Team) and LCCA (After Team), both of which are divided into further sections.

Because Dante cannot revive non-Sinners, they put special care into their equipment, with body armour, firearms, ballistic shields, electroshock weaponry and armoured vehicles being used.

LCCA

The LCCA, or After Team, is tasked with cleaning up after and/or recovering the Sinners if the team experiences severe incapacitation during a Golden Bough retrieval. [5] They will also retrieve other Limbus Company staff, as they did with Saude and Pilot after their missions went awry.

Not much else is known about the team yet, other than that they are equipped with HP ampules — capable of regeneration from fatal injuries once injected into the body — obtained through Vergilius' connections with Siegfried of K Corp.

LCCB

The LCCB, or Before Team, performs reconnaissance and intelligence tasks about target locations the Sinners travel to [5], as well as planning Golden Bough retrieval missions. [6]

The LCCB has a Preliminary Observation section that is also tasked with exploring ahead and writing the preliminary observations of Abnormalities they may encounter, as seen with My Form Empties' Observation Log 1. According to Effie, who belonged to this division along with Saude, it has more staff than the rest of the LCCB, pays the least, and is overall treated as being expendable. [7]

LCD

The LCD is a department which houses consultant Fixers and is dedicated to handling matters regarding Distortions. According to Faust, while the size of the department is small, its existence shows that the Limbus Company does have interest in studying the Distortion Phenomenon. [8]

Moses and Ezra, previously independent Fixers specializing in cases involving Distortions, are part of the LCD. Vespa, previously an N Corp. Taboo Hunter, appears to be part of the LCD as well. Ezra introduces herself as a member of the LCD in Intervallo III, helping Dante to stabilize the Monolith that caused the Blade Lineage members Bamboo-hatted Kim and Aeng-du to distort. She also convinces the LCA to bring both Blade Lineage members back for study, alongside the Monolith. [1] Vespa is first mentioned during Canto VII: The Dream Ending Part I, where he's implied to be working together with Moses and Ezra.

LCE

The LCE serves as Limbus Company's research and development team. Led by chief researcher Hohenheim, their responsibilities include the research and classification of captured Abnormalities, Distortions and Peccatula, as well as the extraction of E.G.O from said Abnormalities and experiments surrounding the Monolith. They are met during Intervallo V: LCB Regular Check-up.

Trivia

  • According to Faust, the Sinner's contracts do not permit resignation.
    • There is, however, a special clause that is of interest to Ishmael. What this clause entails is unknown.
  • Despite Faust being subordinate to Dante, she has access to information with clearance levels too high for Dante to access.
  • The club weapon used by Effie, LCCB Assistant Manager Rodion, and the Pallidified Thing-Club enemies use a scrapped design for a club weapon in Lobotomy Corporation.
  • The term 'Limbus' could come from the medical term 'Corneal limbus' that indicates the border between the cornea and the sclera of the eye.
