Limbus Company is a single-player turn based role-playing game developed and published by Project Moon, released for Microsoft Windows and iOS and Android smartphone devices. It released on February 26th, 2023 and receives weekly updates. It is the studio's third game after Lobotomy Corporation and Library of Ruina and is set in the same world as their other projects.
Story
An amnesiac person named Dante is recruited by Limbus Company to act as executive manager to the Limbus Company Bus Department, a group of twelve Sinners who travel through the City on Mephistopheles, a bus with unique abilities, to collect the Golden Boughs left behind at old Lobotomy Corporation facilities. Dante and the Sinners enter a contract with each other that allows Dante to reverse time for them, a power which they use to heal their injuries and even bring them back from death.
The story is divided into the Inferno (consisting of main story chapters also known as Cantos) and Detour Tales (also known as Intervallos). Each Canto follows the LCB on a mission to retrieve a Golden Bough, with the story centering around a specific Sinner as they discover that the location where the Golden Bough resides or the people who currently own it are related to their past. The Intervallo chapters release alongside events and serve to bridge the story between Cantos, showing important moments during their travels from one Golden Bough location to the next and setting up future story moments.
The webseries Leviathan is a prequel story to Limbus Company centering on Vergilius, the guide of the LCB, before he was recruited by the company.
Gameplay
For a full guide to combat in Limbus Company, see Battles.
Limbus Company's major gameplay mechanics revolve around turn-based combat stages. Each turn within a battle, each unit (both ally and enemy) selects a Skill out of a Skill Deck which they will use once combat is initiated. Each skill comprises of several aspects including (but not limited to) a Base Power number, Attack Type, Sin Affinity, and at least one coin. Coins have their own numbers (positive or negative) which can adjust the final number of a Skill when used. When two units play Skills against each other, a Clash occurs, where each unit will flip all of the coins on their Skill, with the Skill that rolls the lower number losing a coin. Clashes continue until one unit has lost all of their coins. In a clash between two offensive Skills, the other unit will attack the losing unit with the rest of the coins on their respective Skill. Battles will continue until one side's units have been defeated, when the player passes a win or lose condition, or when the battle has passed 100 turns.
Alongside Skills, all Sinners have access to E.G.O, powerful attacks that can be activated and used at the expense of E.G.O Resources gained from using Skills as the battle progresses. All Skills and E.G.O have their own attributes and may afflict their targets with a Status Effect.
All Sinners have a variety of Identities that can be gained either via Extraction or from the Dispenser. Each Identity has its own unique Skill deck and varying resistances against different Sin Affinities and Attack Types. These attributes differ even between Identities belonging to the same sinner. Strategizing and taking advantage of the Attack Type and Sin Resistances between both ally and enemy units is vital for optimizing gameplay if the player chooses to do so.
Extraction
For a full guide to the gatcha system in Limbus Company, see Extraction.
Located in the "Extract" tab on the game's taskbar, Extraction is one of the main ways to gain new Identities and E.G.O by using Lunacy or Extract Tickets. The featured Identities and E.G.Os typically change with each weekly maintenance, with the latest releases in the featured banner alongside another general banner focused on another Sinner. Once a featured banner ends, the featured Identity or E.G.O is sent to the Dispenser, where it can be bought using Egoshards. Some Identities will not go to the Dispenser immediately if exclusive to an event or Season.
