Basilisoup

Basilisoup is a non-fightable Abnormality. It can be encountered in the Mirror Dungeon through Abnormality events.

It is the source of the E.G.O Lifetime Stew.

Appearance

Basilisoup has the appearance of a basilisk, or cockatrice. Its white skin, which appears to lack any feathers, is seen to be tearing at places, seeping out soup.

It has a long neck which connects to a bronze cauldron that serves as its head, complete with a comb and wattle. The bottom of the cauldron is split open, giving it the appearance of a beak. The cauldron is filled with the same soup from its body, spilling out from its mouth.

Basilisoup also possesses a pair of large dragon wings, and what appears to be a long reptilian tail.

A forsaken tavern.

Warm, hearty aroma of stew wafts from the empty kitchen.

Following the trail of that delicious scent leads us to a coiling lizard with a head not unlike a cauldron.

Within its head is a hotly roaring fire and a modest cauldron dangling from above it.

Ancient stew boils vigorously from within the cauldron. It's been boiling for so long that it's become impossible to tell what the original ingredients may have been.

As I stood there wondering what must be done with this stew, a voice echoes from underneath the cauldron.

There lies a sentient hearthflame, speaking to us.

'There isn't anyone left here to enjoy the stew.'
'Would ya mind removing the cauldron?

Gobble up the stew. The cauldron looks too heavy and hot for us to move, let alone touch. A discussion with the Sinners led to the conclusion that we would all rather try the stew instead. According to the Sinners, the stew tasted of… stewed meat and mysterious veggies. Clearly, it was pretty delicious, if a bit mundane. The hearthflame falls silent as well, apparently satisfied. All Allies healed for 10 HP and SP.

Feel free to keep the cauldron.' The hearthflame thanked us. E.G.O Gift Decamillennial Stewpot obtained! The Selected Identity took 10 HP Damage! Check Failed [Sinner] grabbed the cauldron and pulled it off the fire… … but tripped on a protruding piece of rock, pouring hot stew all over the other Sinners. 'O-oh no, are you guys okay? That must've been really hot.' 'Still, thank you. Feel free to keep the cauldron…' The hearthflame thanked us, if a bit apologetically. E.G.O Gift Decamillennial Stewpot obtained! All Allies took 30 HP Damage!

Take the hearthflame. Select to gain a Burn E.G.O Gift Cauldron… stew… all of that pales in comparison to a hearthflame that can speak. After a discussion with the Sinners, I decided to take the hearthflame. 'Wha? Y-you're taking me? Huh? Why?' 'What the hell— Why are you taking me?' The astonished hearthflame continued to express its confusion, but I didn't really have an answer to give it, either. It wasn't like it could understand what I was saying, given that I can communicate only in ticks and tocks… I continued to walk away in hurried steps without answering its questions, and the hearthflame soon fell silent as well. E.G.O Gift Decamillennial Hearthflame obtained!

The Lifetime Stew E.G.O is extracted from Basilisoup.

Don Quixote and Sinclair's E.G.O were added as part of the Hell's Chicken Event during Season 1, Don Quixote's available through Event Rewards and Sinclair's through Extraction. Both E.G.O are obtainable through both the Dispenser and the Sinner's Target Extractions from Season 3 onward.

Trivia

• Basilisoup is based on the story of Stone Soup. In the story, a group of travelers place a stone into a pot of water, claiming to make a 'stone soup'. Villagers decide to add their own ingredients to the soup to improve its taste. Finally, the travelers remove the stone and share the finished soup with the village.
  • The story is also reflected in its E.G.O. Sinclair's shares the idea of communally sharing the stew among everyone due to the Indiscriminate nature of its Awakening skill, while Don Quixote's quote is one directly inspired by the story.
• The Abnormality is inspired by the tradition of Perpetual stews, a common practice in medieval inns in which a stew pot would have ingredients continuously placed inside and cooked, so as to be ready to feed any travelers that entered immediately. This is reflected by the Abnormality event and the naming of both E.G.O Gifts.
• The name 'Basilisoup' is a portmanteau of Basilisk + Soup.
  • A Basilisk is a legendary reptilian creature of European origin, often called the "king of serpents".
• What appears to be wall-mounted heads of Papa Bongy can be seen in the E.G.O Backgrounds of this Abnormality.
