–Zigong, Intervallo V: Nocturnal Sweeping |
Zigong (Hangul: 자공, ja-gong) is a retainer to the Jia Family in District 8, accompanying Jia Qiu in his travels. She is a minor antagonist introduced in Intervallo V: Nocturnal Sweeping, and is similarly present in Canto VIII: The Surrendered Witnessing.
Appearance
Zigong is a woman with long black hair with several strands of red hair throughout, wrapped into a small bun atop her head secured by a gold hair ornament. She wears a dark hanfu that reach her ankles and dark armor on her torso and left bicep, the armpiece featuring a red band tied around it. Around her waist is a thick sash with a snakeskin patterning. Her robes split to reveal a white inside from the waist down, ending at her feet adorned in dark loafers.
She carries a gunbai with a patterning of flowers on the backside. The end of her gunbai appears to be charred.
Personality
Zigong is a cryptic woman, choosing to respond to questions indirectly. Like her master, she values the price of information, speaking carefully and listening closely to others. She is highly perceptive, shown to be able to recognize the presence of a serpentine Heishou Pack member that her master was unaware of. Despite her intensive planning and wealth of knowledge, she recognizes her inability to account for everything in the formation of her plans, with enough humility to recognize how much more she has to learn.
Story
Intervallo V: Nocturnal Sweeping
Accompanying her master, Zigong met the Sinners first as Shi Yihua was confronted over his attempted betrayal of his lord. Zigong recognized the presence of a Heishou Pack member with a serpentine appearance, yet was told to allow them to do as they like by Jia Qiu. Following the beheading of Shi Yihua by the mysterious Heishou Pack member, she reminded her lord of the process of using a stasis wrap to preserve both Yihua and Qingtao's heads. While her lord left without her, she chose to stay to shortly converse with Dante. During her brief discussion with the group, she recognized Jia Xichun and Hong Lu as insufficient to be rivals to her lord, meaning she has no concern with dispatching them. Despite this, she deflected on answering when Dante asked how this can be, following the attempted killing of the group at Shi Yihua's hands. Reminding the Sinners to 'remain within their borders', she left the area alongside Zilu.
Canto VIII: The Surrendered Witnessing
Following the first round of the Family Hierarch Evaluations, Zigong congratulated Hong Lu for passing, though scolded him for not heeding her prior words. Engaging in a short exchange of words, she called Outis' bluff when the opposing woman claimed Limbus Company's back-up would support the Sinners if confronted.
While Jia Qiu was accompanied by Zilu during the second round of the war, Zigong was not present alongside them. When her master forfeits the second round, and forewarned the Sinners of the growing turmoil and possibility of an oncoming war of the Wings, she sheepishly suggested a plan of hers that Jia Qiu chose to not abide by. Instead, he gave Hong Lu the option to participate in the ensuring of Jia Xichun's acquisition of the role of hierarch and the removal of the Xianren from power.
After the success of getting Jia Xichun out of the Tiekan Temple and to the Daguanyuan throne, Zigong accepted her failure as a retainer in her morbid plan, which involved gouging out Hong Lu's jade eye in order to enter Tiekan Temple. Kong Qiu's teasing makes her admit that she still has much to learn. Finally, she reminds Faust that discussing Kong Qiu's allegiance to the Pinky is not to be done lightly, if ever. Accompanying her master and Zilu, she departs alongside them to continue his business.
