Shiomi Yoru (Hangul: 시오미 요루), also known as the Dihui Star, is a member of the Pinky and one of the five parental figures assigned to training Yoshihide as a Nursefather of the House of Spiders. She is introduced in Canto IX: The Unsevering as the mother of Ryōshū.
Appearance
Shiomi Yoru wears an ornate white kimono that conceals almost her entire body. The kimono is blue-accented, with several blue ribbons tied to her headwear, wrists, and obi. Her pale face is covered by a veil adorned with a flower pattern, which is also visible on the outfit's sleeves and hem. She wears white gloves and a long, uniquely-knotted rope that hangs from her neck to her waist. The Dihui Star's hair is black with blue streaks, falling past her shoulders. She carries an incredibly long ōdachi whose color scheme matches her robes.
Beneath her veil, her face is similar to Ryōshū's, though with longer hair with strands of blue strewn about.
Personality
Similar to the majority of the Nursefathers, Shiomi Yoru is a cold woman with the capacity for incredibly cruel words, uncaring about her effects on Ryōshū's mental and physical state, in the name of creating a perfected weapon. She carries a bitter resentment of the protégé, choosing to openly admonish her for their connection. Despite her attitude towards the woman, she still understood her role as a stepping stone, showing grace—though tarnished with her hatred—even whilst having her tongue cut off.
Story
Prior to Limbus Company
Shiomi Yoru was a member of the Pinky, the Dihui Star, famed for her genetic ability to perceive time perfectly, which made her a candidate to wield the Relic Arayashiki. Ryōshū, then called Yoshihide, was born from her blood, and Yoru was then made into a Nursefather of the House of Spiders, tasked with the upbringing and training of Yoshihide into the perfect wielder of Arayashiki. Years later, the Thumb would also bionengineer another child from Yoru's blood, Araya, who would be taken in by Yoshihide as her own daughter.
Among the entire body of Nursefathers, Yoru was the closest in relation to Yoshihide; having been forced into the role of her mother, Yoru resented what Yoshihide represented, a fetter to her freedom and the cause of her aging body. Shortly after Yoshihide was brought to the House of Spiders, Yoru made a pinky promise with her that the girl would never grow to be like her.
The Dihui Star trained Yoshihide in a variety of fields, particularly swordplay. One particular lesson involved teaching Yoshihide of "the spiral", a weapon used to bore into a victim, though never completely, as a means to inflict massive distress and disfigurement. In her demonstration of this weapon, Yoru stabbed Yoshihide's pet dog, Saru, who was only saved by Yoshihide's speed in completing a mission. Though the pet survived, she was left forever struggling to breathe.
In their time together, Shiomi Yoru consistently reminded Yoshihide of her status as a fetter to the House of Spiders, her words at times so cruel that Yoshihide felt unable to speak up against her. One day, when Yoshihide returned home after receiving an augmentation that made her eye look identical to Yoru's, and upon seeing Yoshihide smoke the same cigarettes as her, Shiomi Yoru realized that, despite the promise they had made, Yoshihide was growing to resemble her more and more.
Eventually, around two years before the events of Canto IX, Yoshihide decided to free herself and Araya from the control of the House, leading to her attacking and wounding the various Nursefathers. As she was found by Yoshihide, Shiomi Yoru commented that this would be the only way for them to get even, before Yoshihide proceeded to sever her tongue. As she bled, Shiomi reminded her of the fact that neither of them would ever be free from the House of Spider's web, and that even Yoshihide would always remain stuck in her past, even if she forgot it. In a rage, Yoshihide stabbed the older woman in the chest, killing her then and there. The memory of Shiomi's death would later be lost to Ryōshū.
During the two years of Yoshihide's absence, Araya would emerge from the Time Vault, having aged dramatically thanks to the effects of temporal entanglement, to the point that she now resembled the deceased Shiomi Yoru. As a result of this resemblance, she was offered the position of the new Pinky Nursefather, which she accepted under the guise and mantle of the Dihui Star.
Canto IX: The Unsevering
Due to Arayashiki's memory-erasing effects, Ryōshū's memory of killing Shiomi Yoru had been mutilated. During the House of Spiders' attack on Limbus Company HQ, Ryōshū comes face to face with the Dihui Star once more, believing her to be Shiomi Yoru somehow back from the dead; in reality, this was Araya disguised as Shiomi.
It is only when Limbus Company strikes back against the House during Operation Spider Pyre that Ryōshū remembers the truth. After defeating the Dihui Star in combat, Ryōshū stabs her through the heart, only to realize later that she had already killed Shiomi in a similar fashion; Shiomi is indeed long dead. It's only after Ryōshū strikes the Dihui Star down a second time that she realizes that she'd been fighting Araya all along.

- Shiomi Yoru is likely based on the character Hu Sanniang (扈三娘，Pinyin: Hù Sānniáng) from Water Margin, who shares the title of Dihui Star.
