–Shi Yihua, Intervallo V: Nocturnal Sweeping |
Shi Yihua (Hangul: 사이화, sa-i-hwa) is the heir of the Shi Family located within District 8, participating in the Family Hierarchal Examination. He is the primary antagonist of Intervallo V: Nocturnal Sweeping, and a minor antagonist in Canto VIII: The Surrendered Witnessing.
Apearance
Shi Yihua is a young man with shoulder length dark hair parted at the middle. He wears a red changpao top with four golden fastenings along its gold trim, underneath a red suit jacket. On his left lapel is a small circular symbol, with two points coming out of its bottom and one from its top. He wears a red pair of dress pants, as well as dark shoes with a golden trim.
Following his revival in Canto VIII, he wears the same clothes, yet is now covered in scarlet pinion growths along his entire body, featuring large eyeballs scattered among them. While the left side of his face is now obscured by these pinions, the right side is left unobscured, revealing a black sclera with a bright red pupil. Along his body, he wears several orange talismans, and his hands have morphed into dark claws.
Personality
Shi Yihua is an arrogant heir of his family, frequently speaking down on others and mocking them, even in the face of their possible demise. However, when faced with the consequences of his schemes by his masters, he becomes desperately frantic, going as far as telling secrets known only by the Shi Family in hopes it will allow him to survive.
While he acts largely the same following his revival, Wang Dawei believes him to have possibly become "even stupider" due to the revival process of the experimental boluses.
Story
Prior to the events of Limbus Company
At some point in the past, Shi Yihua would abandon the Shi Family and work under Jia Qiu and, by extension, the Jia Family. Despite this abandonment, Yihua wished to return to his family name and scheme for a way to accomplish this.
Intervallo V: Nocturnal Sweeping
As the Family Hierarchy Examinations drew near, Shi Yihua, working beneath Jia Qiu, began scheming to allow his family a greater standing among families, leading him to hiring several factions and people to assist him in securing a lead in the examinations. Among these groups would be Qingtao and the Tri-axe Office, as well as the Heishou Pack's Mao Branch being temporarily put beneath his command.
Following the failed attempt to assassinate the Sinners as they rested in Qingtao's trapped kezhan, Shi Yihua emerged to reveal himself to the Sinners, accompanied by Zilu. While speaking to the group about his plans to kill Hong Lu and everybody else present, he repeatedly alluded to the use of the Sweepers to accomplish this. While the Sinners battle Zilu, the group is interrupted by the arrive of a Big Brother of the Middle, Ricardo, who arrived hoping to enact vengeance against the Sinners for their previous actions against the faction in Canto V: The Evil Defining. Yihua arrogantly insulted Ricardo's hair, causing him to be written in the Book of Vengeance and making the factions present all begin their battle against one another. While Zilu would temporarily defend Yihua against Ricardo, she evacuated along with him to avoid needless fighting.
The battle progressed until Shi Yihua bursts out laughing, revealing that it was now the time for the Night in the Backstreets, signaling the awakening of Sweepers. As the building melts to reveal itself as a fake, Yihua retreats once more, leaving the group to be attacked by the oncoming waves of Sweepers.
Following the deadly battle against the attacking Sweepers, Shi Yihua commended the Sinners for their survival, revealing the plan for everything that had happen - even down to the reorganization that would disrupt the group, which dispatched the Middle. Revealing his hopes to secure strength in the upcoming Family Hierarchy Examination, Yihua commands Zilu to finish off the Sinners, though this is interrupted by the arrival of Jia Qiu, carrying the head of Qingtao. Suddenly panicked at the acknowledgement of his insubordination towards the Jia Family, Shi Yihua started attempting to bargain for his life, failing as a Heishou Pack member with a serpentine appearance beheaded him before he could finish. His head would be collected and taken by Jia Qiu, being preserved by stasis wrap.
Canto VIII: The Surrendered Witnessing
Despite being decapitated, Shi Yihua was revived and brought to his newfound state via experimental boluses created by Wang Dawei. This revival would be the third time such a thing happened to Shi Yihua, according to Xue Baochai. Hong Lu questions Jia Qiu about Shi Yihua's status after the first round of the Family Hierarch war, but Jia Qiu does not answer his question. In reality, he was stored within Wang Dawei's coffin, having remained interested in the Family Hierarchal Evaluation, yet unable to participate.
In the midst of round two, Wang Dawei encountered Hong Lu and Xue Baochai, where he would reveal Shi Yihua as a marketing strategy for the boluses used to bring him to his current state. While Wang Dawei would not plan to battle the Sinners, Shi Yihua would be overzealous and attack them for his "revengeance", much to Dawei's distaste. During the battle, several pinions of Yihua's would come loose and strike Wang Dawei, though the man continued to battle Xue Baochai and her faction until they were both eliminated.

Trivia
- Every instance of Shi Yihua using the word sweep—including alternative tenses of it—is italicized, to represent his outward scheming to have the Sinners killed by Sweepers.
- This trend of italicization would be retained for his following appearance in Canto VIII, now italicizing instances of kneel and kowtow.
- Shi Yihua currently holds the record for the 'how fast can I get written up in Ricardo's Book of Vengeance' challenge, accomplishing this within 15 seconds.
