Don Quixote
Don Quixote (Hangul: 돈키호테, don-ki-ho-te) is designated Sinner #3 of Limbus Company's LCB department.
Don Quixote is a rambunctious and steadfast woman with a strong sense of justice. She never parts with her shoes Rocinante on her quest to become a valorous Fixer of the City, and was previously associated with the amusement park of La Manchaland prior to joining Limbus Company.
She is the focus character of Canto VII: The Dream Ending.
Appearance
Don Quixote is a short woman with blonde hair styled in a bob cut and deep, round hazel eyes. She wears the Limbus Company uniform: a plain white shirt tucked under a black waist belt, a red tie, black slacks, worn brown running shoes, and a long black coat. Her upper body is thoroughly decorated with various Fixer merchandise.
Notably, Don Quixote forgoes the Limbus Company uniform shoes and instead wears a pair of yellow shoes with the word "Rocinante" embossed on them. Don Quixote wears a variation of this footwear in nearly all of her Identities.
Don Quixote wields a massive jousting lance named "SUEÑO IMPOSIBLE" that towers over her, indicating that she is much, much stronger than she initially appears to be. This fact is further supported by her dexterity with such a massive weapon and her effortless ability to pierce a human skull with it at short distance.
In her Bloodfiend form, Don Quixote has bright red eyes, and her hair is noticeably wavier, swept to the side. In her time as Sancho, Don Quixote was seen wearing a light gray outfit reminiscent of a military uniform, with a darker coat on top and a red fur boa worn over her shoulder that reached down to her knees. Currently, her Bloodfiend form wears an altered version of her Limbus Company uniform, which bears the same red fur boa from her past, covers the coattails in hardened blood, seemingly conceals or outright removes all of her Fixer decorations, and leaves her barefoot due to Rocinante's removal.
Personality
Don Quixote is a naive, energetic individual with a childish view of how the world works. She talks in an exaggerated, animated manner and jumps into any scene with enthusiasm, regardless of the gravity of the situation. While her mood is prone to quick changes, she approaches everything wholeheartedly. On a bus filled with hardened personalities, Don Quixote sticks out as incredibly friendly, silly, and over-the-top woman. Fitting of her knightly persona, she speaks exclusively in Shakespearean English.
Don Quixote has an intense sense of justice and desire to protect the weak. She cannot stand to watch idly as innocents are harmed, and her desire to protect children is particularly strong. While this benevolent attitude is a respectable rarity in the City, it proves to be troublesome when paired with Don Quixote's high levels of impulsivity. More often than not, this determination to shield others from harm only serves to cause trouble for the people around her. Intervening during the separation of parent and child as the LCB's attempted to enter into K Corp.'s Nest led the Sinners to fight several unnecessary battles against the Wing's feathers in Canto III, just as engaging in a duel against a Cinq Fixer in Canto VII to convince him to rescue citizens ends up a bloody, fruitless cause. However, a reprimanding from Vergilius after the K Corp. incident did lead to improved behavior from Don Quixote, as she began to learn to think before she acts.
The passionate spirit defining of Don Quixote's character originates from her great love of Fixers. Although Fixers are little more than contracted help, Don Quixote views them as the City's altruistic heroes of justice, and yearns to be one herself. By playing the part of the people's knight in shining armor, Don Quixote believes herself to be living up to a worthy Fixer's example. She particularly idolizes famous Fixers such as Siegfried, Vergilius, and the Red Mist, but has a great deal of love for each and every one of them, enough to gush over the likes of Nelly or the Molar Office. Although Don Quixote lacks a lot of general knowledge of the City's workings, she is utterly unmatched when it comes to Fixer-related wisdom.
At times, Don Quixote's love for Fixers and want to be like them are at odds with each other. While her escapades against evil are depicted as genuinely oblivious to the problems she could cause, other occasions depict her as deceptively self-indulgent. Intervallo III: Miracle in District 20, for example, sees her endanger the LCB's lives so that she might get a chance to meet the "Red Sack", all while suggesting the mission is actually for Heathcliff's sake.[4] Additionally, her rambunctious attitude often earns her disapproval from those around her, who view Don Quixote as unrealistic and immature. Nonetheless, Don Quixote is scarcely portrayed as having ill intentions. Rather, she tends to come off as cheeky and adventure-driven, wishing the best for everyone, including herself.
Yet, Canto VII shows that there is much more to Don Quixote than her quirky, chivalrous self.
As Sancho
Sancho lived an entirely different life, that of an impassive Bloodfiend, prior to wiping her memories and eventually joining Limbus Company as "Don Quixote". As a result, she possessed a drastically different personality.
Sancho was an all-around detached individual. She harbored a deadpan, pessimistic attitude that establishes her as antisocial and stubborn, in contrast to the excited personalities of her Family members. She lived and spoke as she pleased, with little concern for matters like Bloodfiend hierarchy or social etiquette. While occasionally prone to perkiness, Sancho was always quick to swallow these emotions down, considering it embarrassing.
Despite her apathetic exterior, however, Sancho was at times disposed to stronger emotions, such as a great passion for Fixers and love for her Father. Rather than being incapable of intense feelings, Sancho is more accurately described as dishonest with herself and others, possessing an inexplicable need to disguise her joys and tenderness under layers of apathy. She is also shown to be prone to bouts of depression: having originally met Don Quixote after a failed suicide attempt, and later choosing to erase her entire "self" after the tragedy of La Manchaland.
Sancho's feelings towards other people are at times unclear, as she held strained relationships with her Family members Dulcinea, the Barber, the Priest, and Cassetti. However, she cared deeply for her Father, and grew to love her fellow Sinners enough to refer to them as her new "family". Rather, it's suggested that Sancho was prone to difficulty communicating with and reading others, leading to her mistakenly coming off as condescending and arrogant, and resulting in strained relationships with the Bloodfiends unable to forgive her icy attitude.
Canto VII: The Dream Ending sees Sancho decide to swallow her shame and accept her deep love of Fixers and justice, henceforth continuing to play the role as Don Quixote, Sinner no.3. Post-Canto, Don Quixote is as excited and nonsensical as ever, however now capable of proper conversations and deductions underneath the playful manner of speaking. Her Battle Announcer also depicts her acknowledging the ridiculousness of her persona at times, while her Four-hundred Roses Observation Log demonstrates that "Sancho" still appears to be her default personality and thought process, but one which she is embarrassed to present to the other Sinners. With the LCB, Sancho—again known as Don Quixote—holds onto the memories of what made her who she is, while embracing the life she loves yet long-denied herself the chance to experience.

Rocinante
Rocinante was created by First Kindred Don Quixote out of a significant amount of his own blood,[5] using the impressive blood manipulation powers of a high-Kindred Bloodfiend. Rocinante's abilities suppress the characteristics of a Bloodfiend, such as their red eyes, allowing its wearer to live without the traits that separate their kind from humans. When placed on one's feet as a pair of shoes, Rocinante will strip a Bloodfiend of all defining characteristics other than their thirst for blood.[6]
It is partially suggested that Don Quixote originally created Rocinante for his personal use, to wear and live like a human when going on his Fixer adventures.[7][8] However, this idea is contradicted by his decision to reshape Rocinante into a horse, instead of simply wear them as shoes, to "appear and behave as humans do" on his and Sancho's adventure at the human village.[9]
While it is unclear how "alive" a Bloodfiend's blood-formed creation can be made to be, Rocinante is said to possess a will of its own both in the form of a living being and as shoes.[10][11] Additionally, one line from Sancho suggests there were points where Rocinante had even the power to speak.[12] This "will" may in part clarify why putting Rocinante back on at the end of Murder on the WARP Express once again wipes the LCB's Don Quixote of her memories, while putting them on at the end of Canto VII inexplicably allows her to retain her memories as Sancho; still, this may just be a simple lore contradiction, given that Don Quixote's memories were suppressed by the River of Oblivion and not Rocinante.
While First Kindred Don Quixote originally forced Rocinante onto Sancho's feet so that she'd get the chance to live as a human, away from La Manchaland, she ultimately chose to keep them on. The shoes now act as a chance for Sancho to live out her dream as Limbus Company's Don Quixote, though she hopes that one day she may be freed from her reliance on them.
Trivia
- Don Quixote's character icon represents a carousel horse prancing before a white star. The carousel horse references her home of La Manchaland and reprises the symbol embroidered on the side of Rocinante, as seen in her base E.G.O.
- Don Quixote is represented by the "🎠" emoji.[13]
- Don Quixote's particulars are listed as "over-passionate", "[REDACTED]", and "has delusions of grandeur",[14] while her associated color is #ffef23, Oblivion Yellow.[15]
- Don Quixote is named after the eponymous protagonist of Miguel de Cervantes's novel The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha. In it, an hidalgo, member of the lowest Spanish nobility, whose main past time is reading chivalric romances, loses his mind and decides to become a knight himself, under the name Don Quixote de La Mancha, pursuing the ideals of chivalry. Don Quixote, accompanied by a farm labourer who becomes his "squire", Sancho Panza, embarks on a series of travels across Spain in search of adventure. As the world Don Quixote lives in is no longer that of chivalric tales, it is up to his imagination to find quests worthy of a knight.
- In Canto VII, her true identity as Sancho is revealed, mirroring that of Sancho Panza, Don Quixote's squire. Much like Sancho as seen in Limbus Company, the literary Sancho begins as a down-to-earth character who doesn't share his master's delusion. Scholars note that throughout the course of the novel, Sancho begins believing in Don Quixote's tales, while Don Quixote slowly detaches himself from his delusions. This is reflected in their respective characters in Limbus Company.
- Don Quixote's introduction quote does not come from her book, instead referencing a line of the 1965 musical, "Man of La Mancha", an adaptation of Don Quixote. In the song "The Impossible Dream", after being questioned by the inn wench Aldonza (by him called "Dulcinea") regarding his wish to become a knight, Don Quixote describes his quest with the lyrics, "I'll always dream the impossible dream. Yes, and I'll reach the unreachable star."
- The song is further referenced through Don Quixote's lance: its name is "SUEÑO IMPOSIBLE", meaning "Impossible Dream" in Spanish.
- Like all of the Sinners, Don Quixote voiced a "Document Excerpt" Youtube short.
- During HamHamPangPang's Limbus Company Pop-up theme, one of the available menu items was "Sinner Soul Food" which changed every week to be a different meal associated with one of the twelve playable Sinners. Don Quixote's associated meal was Gambas al Ajillo.[16]
- In the Afternoon Greeting of her Index Proxy Identity she mentions wanting 'a dish of fresh shrimp and garlic', referencing this.[17]
- Don Quixote wears a metal name tag as opposed to the ID badge that the the majority of the other Sinners use, a trait she shares with Hong Lu and Outis. This is likely due to her real name being unknown to her at the time of recruitment, and the name "Don Quixote" only being officially passed on to her during the events of Canto VII.
- SUEÑO IMPOSIBLE is estimated to be 2.5 m / 8'2 ft long.
- One of Don Quixote's pins—specifically the one at waist level on her jacket—is the symbol of the Purple Tear.
- Despite not having been a Fixer at the time of her recruitment, Don Quixote filled out the Fixer Identification Number (FIN) section in her ID. It appears that unlike Ishmael, who is a Fixer, and whose FIN was written numerically and did not require censoring, Don Quixote wrote words in the section that were redacted together with the other information in the ID.
- Don Quixote has 863 dreams, one of which was to sail the Great Lake in U Corp.'s District.[18] This was fulfilled in Canto V.
- This specific number is a reference to the location Don Quixote can be found in Dewey Decimal Classification.
- Before the September 5th 2024 update, the text on the coat of Don Quixote's LCB Sinner sprites used to read "Miguel" rather than "Don Quixote", referencing the author of her original novel.
- Similarly, the text on her lance used to read "Soñar lo Imposible Soñar", literally meaning "Dreaming the Impossible Dreaming". This was also fixed in the September 5th 2024 update.
- Despite being added to the game in an update after this point, the special battle sprite used by Don Quixote after the scripted loss against Camille once again has "Soñar lo Imposible Soñar" written on her lance. However, her coat still appears to read "Don Quixote".
- Throughout Limbus Company's lifetime, Don Quixote has undergone a few notable changes, all of which are related to her Bloodfiend origin.
