–Jia Zheng, Canto VIII: The Surrendered Witnessing |
Jia Zheng is Hong Lu's father and husband to Lady Wang, as well as a prominent member of the Jia Family. He is a supporting character in Canto VIII: The Surrendered Witnessing.
Appearance
Jia Zheng is a pale man of average height. He has black eyes and long black hair, partially tied up in a bun secured with a silver xiao guan (小冠, xiǎo guān), and sports thin moustache and a goatee. He wears a teal colored hanfu and a darker beizi with pale decorations.
Personality
Jia Zheng is a caring father towards Hong Lu, valuing him as a treasured jade due to his eye. He is a venerated member of the Jia Family and values this fact greatly, believing Hong Lu should disallow his compatriots from using his birth name of Jia Baoyu, worrying it may become "tarnished." He worries of his son becoming sullied by the world, in ways that would ruin his status.
Story
Upon the return of Hong Lu and Jia Xichun, Lady Wang and Jia Zheng welcome Hong Lu back to the estate. While Lady Wang is more emotional about their reunion and goes on to urge Hong Lu to leave again, Jia Zheng is more awkward and quiet throughout the conversation.
During the first round of the Family Hierarch Evaluations, Jia Zheng acted as a judge alongside Jia Mu and Jia Yuanchun, being responsible for calling forth each candidate, as well as announcing whether or not they'd passed. Despite his role as a judge, he failed to account for Hong Lu's unexpected arrival into the ceremony, though begrudgingly allows him to pass after successfully passing the first round's criteria.
During the second round of the Family Hierarch war, he was replaced as the host of the battle royale, due to worries of possible bias.
