Help:Talk Pages

Talk Pages are a special type of page that can be made by clicking the "Discussion" tab at the top of any given page. These are meant to serve as places to publicly discuss ways to improve the page they were created from. These can be edited just like a normal page, but as they are meant to help editors communicate with each other, there are guidelines on how to use them to help keep everything understandable and productive. These pages are not forums for discussions or meant to replace a comment feature that might be found on other wikis.

It is highly recommended to keep a Talk Page that you are participating in your watchlist so you can be notified of responses to your comments.

Much of the discussions regarding editing for this wiki takes place on the Limbus Company Wiki Discord Server. While Talk Pages will still be responded to, if you are seeking a quick response time, it may be preferable to join the Discord Server and ask questions or pose updates there.

Help and Guidelines

  • When creating a new Talk Page, begin the section with a header titling it with the main purpose for the discussion.
  • When adding to a preexisting discussion, click the "Edit" button for the section you want to comment on.
  • If you desire to start a new discussion, use the "Add Topic" button tab at the top of the page.
  • When commenting, make sure that your addition is indented properly by using colons (:) appropriately.
  • All discussions on a Talk Page must be signed by using either three or four tildes (~~~) (~~~~).
  • Do not edit other users' comments or attempt to make it look as if someone other than yourself is making a comment.
  • Keep comments and replies civil, do not be hostile to other users if you disagree with their ideas.

Signing and Indenting

All Talk Page comments must be signed by adding tildes (~) to the end of your comment. Note that signing should not be used outside of Talk Pages.

  • Three tildes (~~~) will sign the page with your Username and link to your personal Talk Page.
  • Four tildes (~~~~) will sign the page with your Username, a link to your personal Talk Page, and give a Time Stamp of when your comment was made.
  • Five tildes (~~~~) will sign the page with a Time Stamp of when your comment was made. As this variant leaves no signature of the author, it is rarely useful.

When replying to a discussion with a comment of your own, you must indent your comment by using a colon (:). Each colon increases the indent, meaning the first comment should use one, the second comment should use two, and so on. When there is an excessive amount of indents and you find the discussion to be becoming unreadable, it may be reset back to one indent and begin again.

For an example on putting these in practice, see the following:

Comment. ~~~
:Reply. ~~~~
::Reply of the reply. ~~~~~

This will result in:

Comment. Username (talk)

Reply. Username (talk) 02:58, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
Reply of the reply. 02:58, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

User Talk Pages

User Talk Pages, like with other Talk Pages, are intended to be used to discuss wiki related topics. Examples of this include asking where they got a source of information that they added to a page, discussing their editing style or sharing tips, or other, similar things. Try to keep discussions on a single Talk Page instead of editing the other user's page to reply to them. You are free to edit your own Talk Page at will (such as adding a background to it, clearing it out, etc), but continue to follow the general rules such as not editing other user's comments.

These are not meant for chatting or off topic discussions, and it is recommended to use other methods of communication if you wish to discuss such things, such as the Wiki's Discord Server.
