Fabius
| “ | ” | |
Fabius (Hangul: 파비우스, pa-bi-u-seu) is an Ægir and a cultist of the Church of the Deep, a faction of Seaborn-worshipping fanatics. Pretending to be the leader of a settlement known as Faro Muerto, he gives the Sinners a place to stay in repayment of them repairing the Vessel Masas. He is a minor antagonist in Episode Arknights - EX: Pilgrimage of Compassion.
Appearance
Fabius is an older Ægirian with his gray hair parted at his right side, stray strands of hair resting on his forehead. His eyes are perpetually closed, and he has a set of similarly-whitened facial hair. His face is notably wrinkled and aged. He wears a dark set of gray, patched robes, the upper set of which spreads downwards into a cape with an inner blue lining. He wears dark shoes on his feet, and a silver necklace overtop his lower set of robes.
In combat, he can be seen sprouting large, gray, tentacles from the inside of his robes.
Personality
Fabius first acts as a gentle and kind man whose village has experienced great turmoil, making him recognizably untrusting of the Sinners until they prove themselves by fixing a vessel of his. When they do, however, he acts friendly, hiding a sinister lifestyle beneath.
When faced with the appearance of Irene, an Inquisitor who recognizes the group as a faction of followers of the Church of the Deep, Fabius drops his friendly demeanor as he orders the group to assimilate the Sinners into Seaborn. In his true nature, Fabius is exceedingly devout to the Cult of the Deep, willing to sacrifice others - as well as himself - if it means the assimilation of the Seaborn will be accomplished. Mayors recognizes his devoutness, though disagrees with the violence he is willing to use to convince others of his cause.
Story
Prior to Limbus Company
Fabius met Mayors many years ago after the researcher first arrived on land from the underwater civilization of Ægir. In one encounter of the two aboard the Vessel Masas, Mayors commented on the older man's rapid aging in comparison to her slower aging. Faced with the idea of impending doom, Fabius became deadset on utilizing the nature of Seaborns in avoiding catastrophe, to which Mayors disagreed. Despite the disagreement on the fundamental worship of Seaborn, Fabius followed her command all the same.
Episode Arknights - EX: Pilgrimage of Compassion
When the Sinners arrived to the Iberian coast of Terra, Fabius offered them shelter into the village of Faro Muerto from where the Sinners took turns looking for Dante. After the Manager was found and the LCB reunited, he continued to offer hospitality, even with the settlement's limited resources, while the Sinners helped with repairing the ancient Iberian vessel "Rebelión de Las Masas" as repayment.
The following day, as the Inquisitor Irene arrived at the village, Fabius and the rest of the Faro Muerto residents were revealed to be members of the Church of The Deep. In the moment of confusion, the villagers swiftly stabbed the Sinners with daggers coated in Sea Terror cells, something that normally would kill and turn people into new Sea Terrors, or convert them to Seaborn. The Sinners were saved by Dante's rewinding ability, and then fought back against Fabius and the rest of the cultists, who were ultimately driven back. The cultists managed to flee to the now-repaired Vessel Masas, leaving the Sinners stranded on Faro Muerto.
Once the Sinners and the Operators of Rhodes Island managed to reach and board Vessel Masas, Fabius and his peers engaged in battle once again. After being defeated, Fabius escaped onto the deck, where he met up with Mayors, who was revealed to be the Bishop of the Church of the Deep that Fabius followed. Fabius, who knew Mayors hadn't yet become a Seaborn herself, offered himself to be eaten by her. When Mayors rejected his offer, he allowed himself to be devoured by the Sea Terror in her stead.
