Dante/Story
Main Story
Prologue: Selva Oscura
Early in the year 984, Dante was tracked down through a forest in the D Corp. Backstreets by three members of a mysterious group: Lion, Wolf, and Panther, who were after something Dante had hidden. When they finally closed in on them, the group was surprised to find Dante had replaced their head with a clock, and that their memories were in the process of being erased. The three, realizing Dante is unable to give the information they seek, decide to kill them—only for Dante to be saved by the Limbus Company Bus Department (LCB). During the fight, Dante formed a contract with the 12 Sinners of the Department following Faust's instruction. This granted Dante the ability to turn back the clock for the Sinners, undoing their injuries or even deaths.
Afterwards, Dante joined the LCB and learned that they are the Executive Manager of the Department, despite their now-complete amnesia.
While Dante's past is shrouded in mystery, they were mentioned by Vergilius to have been "something of a bigwig" in an unknown Nest.
Canto I: The Outcast
Not long after their contract with the Sinners was formed, the LCB were sent on their first Golden Bough retrieval mission. On their way to the Lobotomy Corp. branch, Dante quickly discovered how temperamental and quick to violence their new colleagues were, as they were unable to use their newfound authority to stop several of the Sinners from attacking and killing each other over a minor disagreement. Vergilius requested Dante to turn the clock back, and Faust walked them through the process of bringing the Sinners back from the dead, by instructing them to visualize a door, that only Dante could see.
Dante blocked out their sight as if closing their eyes, and was able to see a large door, which they approached. Despite the agonizing heat and the sounds of endless wails that came from the other side, Dante opened the doors with no hesitation, finding the action natural. Dante reached inside and pulled the Sinners forth, and in the process experienced the pain of their deaths, which vanished after the Sinners' bodies were reconstructed and Dante left the visualized space that contained the door. Immediately after bringing the Sinners back to life, they killed each other once more and Dante was forced to repeat the process.
During the journey to the mission's destination, Dante began learning a little about their job, such as the Company bus, Mephistopheles, needing to feed on humans to extract their Enkephalin, and the fact that their missions with the LCB would allow them to engrave their Aspect through the power of the Golden Boughs.[1] Even without recalling the details of what that entailed, Dante instinctively knew that was their goal. The LCB reached the location of their first mission, the Branch D-02 of the fallen Lobotomy Corporation, where they teamed up with a trio of Fixers: Yuri, Aya and Hopkins. After receiving a warning from Vergilius to not rely on the Fixers, the group began their excursion, fighting through the Abnormalities housed in the Branch and the Old G Corp. veterans that had taken refuge in it.
After Dante revived the Sinners in front of the Fixers, the three were greatly impressed, with Hopkins commenting that the power of Dante's clock had to be comparable to that of a Singularity. Soon after, Aya was killed by an Abnormality, and after the Sinners and Yuri were caught into the blast of an anti-Abnormality gas grenade, Hopkins abandoned the group. Dante was unaffected and Yuri survived by making use of a gas mask, while the Sinners died one by one; after the gas had started to disperse, the Fixer helped Dante retrieve the Sinners so they could revive them.
The group eventually stepped into a containment unit, where the power of the Golden Bough trapped them inside a recreation of Gregor's memories. After they escaped, the Abnormality that had been contained within the unit, the Golden Apple, killed Yuri, devouring her in one bite. As the Sinners fought back against it, the Abnormality took on the appearance of Yuri's head, leading to Gregor hesitating in striking. Sensing his fear, Dante reassured Gregor that that was not Yuri, and ordered him to cut it down. Finally, the Abnormality reverted to its core, and the Golden Bough began coming out of Yuri's severed head. Before the Sinners could take it for themselves, the Bough was taken by Hermann and her New League of Nine Littérateurs, who knocked out Dante and the Sinners.
Dante awoke the following day on Mephistopheles, where Vergilius began chastising them on their failure to obtain the Bough. While Dante attempted to speak back, they were dismissed, until Gregor stepped forward to take responsibility for the failure, with Outis defending them as well. Unsure of what to tell the Sinners to encourage them after the mission's failure, Dante and the rest of the LCB sat in silence for the journey.

Demian

–Demian, reminding Dante of a forgotten promise
Dante first encountered Demian during the events of Canto III and learned that he is capable of understanding their voice despite not having made a contract with them. Demian is quite invested in Dante due to them being the one that will "condition Sinclair", and occasionally meets with Dante to have brief discussions about ongoing events. During these first encounters, Dante was confused by Demian's mysterious way of speaking and riddles, but as they continued these meetings, Dante started being able to put together the hidden meanings behind Demian's words. The subject of the Mirror Worlds and Mirror technology often comes up, with Demian urging Dante to understand the dangers and hidden consequences of abusing things that they don't know the full power of.
The two share a past promise where Dante is meant to "draw Demian a sheep" that, due to their amnesia, Dante is unable to remember the importance behind. It is unclear how literal this request is intended to be, given Demian's fondness for metaphors, but Demian has stated that when Dante is capable of doing so, they will be able to answer other important questions for themselves.
Lion, Wolf, and Panther

–Panther, hoping to find the location of Dante's star
Lion, Wolf, and Panther are a trio of highly competent fighters who hunted down Dante on behalf of their master. Presumably as a way to protect their secrets from the mysterious group, Dante had their head replaced with a prosthetic clock, and in the process developed amnesia. The trio was most interested in Dante's star, hoping to track down its location for the sake of their master, but Dante was willing to die before giving them that information. While the specifics of what their interaction was like before the start of Prologue: Selva Oscura are unclear, whatever they had planned was something Dante presumed was taboo breaking; although Lion clarified that it was not technically breaking any of the City's taboos, if only because nobody had ever considered it before.
Due to their interactions occurring as Dante was losing their memories, Dante behaved much differently around Lion, Wolf, and Panther than they have with any other characters. Dante is actively annoyed and upset that they have interrupted them from their engraving of the Aspect, and makes an attempt to talk back to them. The trio, in contrast, are eager to kill Dante, both on the orders of their master and to have the rare chance to kill someone of such importance.
