–Jia Huan, Canto VIII: The Surrendered Witnessing | ||
The Jia Huan from Hong Lu's memories is the mysterious "bastard child" of the Jia family and younger brother of N Corp. Jia Huan, as well as the origin of his eventual namesake. He is a supporting character in Canto VIII: The Surrendered Witnessing.
Appearance
Jia Huan is a little boy with bright yellow eyes and light skin. He has long hair, which is a deep shade of purple parted down the middle, before tied up into a ponytail with a discolored yellow hair tie. He wears a blue hanfu, which features hints of a darker blue around his waist and wrists, and lighter blue where the design slits along his legs. His shoes are a similar dark blue color.
Personality
Jia Huan is a somewhat curious and oblivious boy. He maintains a friendly attitude with a tendency to poke fun at others, but is also shone to be prone to the small fits of pettiness, jealousy, and accidental insults that are common in children. Additionally, he is somewhat defined by his joyous passion for Bolus-making.
Story
Prior to Limbus Company
Jia Huan is described as having a "more precious" future in Daguanyuan than Hong Lu ever could have. He had a great interest in Boluses and their creation, which led him to envy his peer's Jia Baoyu's relationship with Jia Mu, the woman said to be the most knowledgeable Bolus creator in all of District 8. During their youths, Jia Huan was a friend and playmate of Hong Lu and Lin Daiyu.
When young Hong Lu realized that something terrible was about to happen within the old Kong family building, he went around warning everyone he could to evacuate the area. This included Lin Daiyu and Jia Huan, however, only Lin Daiyu ended up listening to his plea. Led by his envy of Hong Lu and interest in Boluses, Jia Huan would stay to get a peek at the presentation. This led him to be caught in the grand crossfire that led to the destruction of the Kong family. Jia Huan ran into Jia Mu and Hong Lu before he died, where he begged for help and apologized for not listening to Hong Lu's warning. After his death, Jia Mu would criticize the young boy for his greed and refer to him as the "bastard son of the Jia family".
His older brother, the Jia Huan associated with the New League of Nine Littérateurs, would go on to despise Hong Lu for failing to "save" the child, and take on Jia Huan's name, for unknown reasons.[2]

Trivia
- Jia Huan is based on the character by the same name, Jia Huan (贾环,Pinyin: Jiǎ huán), from Cao Xueqin's novel Dream of the Red Chamber.
- In the novel, Jia Huan is Jia Baoyu's younger half-brother, born of Jia Zheng and his concubine Aunt Zhao, who carries resentment and envy towards Baoyu for his superior status within the family. In Limbus Company, this is reflected in Jia Huan's status as a bastard child, who envies Jia Mu and the elders' preference towards Baoyu.
- In Canto II, Hong Lu mentions that he did not get along with his younger sibling as a child, and that his younger sibling liked to "cheat and grouch if things didn’t go as desired", referencing a scene in Dream of the Red Chamber in which Jia Huan cheats at a game during his introduction, and implying that the younger sibling in question was Daguanyuan's Jia Huan.
